Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 12 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self supporting.  They can be:-

  • Single sex or mixed
  • Large or small
  • From a single school or several schools
  • Community based e.g. in a youth group.

What is involved in your Rotary Club getting Interact up and running?

The following documents will help answer the question.  The handbook is the key to what is involved.  The others give information and support material.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and Interact

Many of the activities the Interactors may get involved with will count towards any level of Duke of Edinburgh badge they are pursuing.  RIBI is now an Approved Activity Provider – AAP -, which means, basically, that any school that does DoE will benefit greatly from having an Interact Club.

Rotary is now an Approved Activity Provider. This means that we can, through Interact, (and RYLA) provide volunteer placements, which can also count towards Duke of Edinburgh.

D of E participants have a record of achievement that they must fill in. There will be sections for the supervising Rotarian to fill in e.g. yes, they did do their placement for x-number of hours and they did XYZ activities.

All the same risk assessments and child protection policies apply.

Rotarians must record how many people are doing the awards and what level e.g. bronze, silver and gold.  This information is needed every quarter; this information is VERY important in order for Rotary to retain the AAP status.
