Rotary Young Musicians Competition - Club Level

There are no set pieces and the competition is open to local schoolchildren from ages 8 up to 17. There are three groups, with grade or equivalent to be based on your music teacher’s professional opinion: Ages 8-11, Grade 2; Ages 12-15, Grade 4 and Ages 16 -17, Grade 6. There are three classes of instruments: pianoforte; orchestral strings, including guitar; and woodwind and brass. Performances should not exceed 10 minutes. Entry forms will be delivered to the following schools: Teesdale, Barnard Castle, including the Preparatory Department, Staindrop, St Mary’s RC, Green Lane, Montalbo, Cotherstone and Bowes and to the town’s YMCA. Congratulations to all the singers and musicians who performed to such a high standard in the Barnard Castle Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition, hosted by Barnard Castle School and held in the Sixth Form Centre. The adjudicator was Margaret Smith, choral conductor, pianist, accompanist and violinist and former Director of Music of Leeds Girls' School, and director of music Simon Dearsley played all accompaniment.
Pupils from Barnard Castle School, Montalbo and Green Lane Primary Schools, and Teesdale School, took part.
