2385 Melksham Squadron ATC

We are looking to replace our aging minibus by the end of 2017.  Ideally purchasing a 1 year old 17 seat bus.The cost of £18,000 is being met by our own fundraising through bag packing and car parking as well as donations.

We use our mini but to support the activities and direct work of the sqn, but also to help the local community.  Each year we directly support dozens of local community events with the use of our minibus.

Able (action for a better life)

ABLE is a small Charity which as 4 Care Homes for Adults with Mental Health Problems in Wiltshire, we have 2 Registered Care Homes (one in Melksham, one in Chippenham) and 2

Supported People Projects (one in Chippenham and one in Devizes).

We have decided that we need to be proactive in offering (in the first instance) our Clients various activities that they can do or attend amongst our houses to enable them to continue with things are important to their well-being and help to integrate them into our Communities. We are at the very beginning of offering the following activities: Gardening, Cooking/Baking, Arts and Crafts, Games and Quiz evenings, Walking Groups, Days out Music Group.

We hope to develop these with a view to offer them out to others in our Communities that experience similar problems.

Amber

Amber’s centres, Ashley Court, Bythesea Lodge and Farm Place become a young person's (Amberteer) temporary home where they can work towards achieving a better future. Almost all who come to us are unemployed and homeless, many have a history of addiction or have been involved in crime or have been in prison.

Amber provides 24 hour care and support every day of the year and whilst the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, our programme is carefully structured and tailored to the individual. It provides young people with a challenging and engaging step-by-step rebuilding process designed to help them overcome each of the obstacles that have previously stood between them and independent living. Working in teams they experience positive peer support and feel valued and motivated.

Carer Support Wiltshire

Three in five of us will be unpaid carers at some point in our lives. Becoming a carer can happen at any time and the impact is huge with many often experiencing isolation, loss of employment, health concerns and financial difficulties.

Carer Support Wiltshire helps carers to access support, services, education and training, and breaks from their caring role. We ensure carers in Wiltshire have a voice in policy making and planning for services and we work with health and social care professionals and employers to develop best practice.

Our aim is to create carer friendly communities where carers are recognized, valued and supported.

Devizes Opportunity Group

Devizes and District Opportunity Centre is a small local, independent voluntary organisation managed by a Board of Trustees made up of parents and interested members of the community.

We now have more than 34 years’ experience of working with children who have moderate to severe health and learning difficulties.  We have longstanding, effective working partnerships with relevant statutory and voluntary sector providers which facilitate high standards of liaison and ensures maximum benefit to our user children and families.  

Harmony (relationships)

The grant application is for financial assistance for the refurbishment of 1 violin, 3 clarinets, 3 flutes, 4 trombones and 2 classic guitars. These instruments, once refurbished, will be made available to Melksham based school children free of charge. The charity will also assist with the cost of associated tuition. The number of children to directly benefit from the instruments will be significant as some will be used as general classroom instruments with others having specific assignment. By supporting music in this way it will provide a catalyst for “grass roots” music, the formation of bands and consequently live music performances.

Legs (medical treatment)

Leg clubs are a research-based initiative which provide treatment, health promotion, education and ongoing care for people of all age groups who are experiencing leg related problems.  The current model has been an overwhelming success in Bradford on Avon , so the group would like to open one in Melksham where an estimated 28,000 peoplecould benefit.The money would be used to purchase equipment.

Melksham Seniors

The funding is requested to meet part of the cost for the Christmas Lunch and Party for 230

Melksham Seniors at the Melksham Assembly Hall on Monday 19th December 2016

The expenditure will include the Meal, Entertainment, Decorations, Venue, Transport for

disabled and Music. Plus small gifts for the Children from a local school who are joining the seniors in the rendering of Christmas Carols.

Read Easy

A grant will contribute to a continuing need to supply:

stationery including leaflets and buying specialist books for each Reader. “Yes we can Read” which is used to teach Readers by trained volunteers; a supply of pens and coasters to promote Read Easy; a Display Board for the Christmas Fayre, Party in the Park and Food & River Festival; a literacy box held at Melksham Library requires more books and games to encourage and help

Readers to enjoy the process; there are ongoing travelling expenses for volunteers to attend training sessions in Bristol.

Royal Airforce Association

The grant will be used to defray the cost of conveying members living in the Melksham area to hospitals in Bath, Swindon and occasionally Salisbury.

Stroke Rehab Service - Back on Track

We provide long term Rehabilitation opportunities for young Stroke Survivors and their Carers. We run a 1:1 visiting service, offering information and advice on how to cope with living with the effects of Stroke and run a Young Stroke Support Service, offering peer support, activities, courses, and advocacy throughout the Rehabilitation process.

The project we are seeking funding for is to be able to provide a Vocational Rehab Service, focussing on trying to improve the chances of our clients returning to employment.

We want to offer opportunities to attend courses to re-learn lost skills and re-training in new skills. We want to offer an enhanced service providing more back to work guidance and support. This will involve accessing Volunteering opportunities and Work Experience placements for our young Stroke Survivors.

The Shed

To help us to help more people in Melksham we need bigger premises, we have purchased a Container which we are currently converting to be fit for purpose and need financial help.

Wiltshire and District Girl Guiding

Wiltshire and District Girl Guiding own the wooden building which is used as our Headquarters.  The hall is a single skin wooden building and is about 60 years old.In 201/2016 we raised enough money to have one side of the HQ insulated and decorated, this has already made a huge difference. We would really like to do the same to the other side.

Wiltshire Bobby Trust

The Trust protects the most vulnerable e in our community by securing homes for the elderly, vulnerable and disadvantaged (through mental or physical disability) who have become, or are at risk of becoming victims of house crime or domestic violence.  In the past 12 months we have secured 32 homes in Melksham.  The average cost of scruring each home is £165.  Funding is requested towards the cost of securing more homes like these.

Wiltshire Mind

Wiltshire Mind is a local independent Mental Health Charity based in Melksham and provides County-wide services. We are a voluntary organisation affiliated to Mind, working towards a better life for people diagnosed (or not), labelled and treated as mentally ill. The money is needed to continue helping 16 people per week.

Wiltshire Search and Rescue

We wish to purchase a Lowland Rescue first Response Bag – an easy to used kit designed for the life-saving skills used by  Lowland Rescue first responders. The kit contains modules for catastrophic haemorrhage, airway, breathing circulation, medical problems and more and is packaged in an industry- leading Rescue and medical bag. 

We exist to search for vulnerable missing persons and item such as evidence in a criminal case.
