Bob Wilson, Sportsman and TV Presenter, was the guest of honour at a Gala Charity Night on Friday 24 March at the Marriott Highcliffe Hotel, Bournemouth where a total of £14,500 was raised.

The evening, which includes a three-course dinner, saw Bob talking about his life playing in and commentating on, ‘the beautiful game’ – football. Bob’s track record in the game goes back to his playing days as the last amateur to play in the First Division moving on to making more than 300 first team appearances and helping the Gunners to win the European Fairs Cup in 1970 and the following year the League Championship and FA Cup double.  He also played for Scotland.

Since the mid-seventies he worked with the BBC as their main sports presenter for over 20 years then moving to ITV until 2002 when he retired. In August 1999 he and his wife Megs launched the Willow Foundation, a charity in memory of their daughter Anna who died in December 1998.  The foundation exists to provide special days for seriously ill young adults between the ages 16 to 40.

The Gala Charity Night is set to benefit three charities, the Willow Foundation, Dorset Cancer Care Foundation and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. Sue Young, President of Wimborne Rotary said, “We are fortunate indeed to have Bob Wilson as a speaker at this Gala Charity Night. Our guests on the night heard a unique insight into the world of football and sport more generally”.
