Visit to Nepal 24thFebruary – 12thMarch 2018
Majhtar Thultar Water Project, Nepane Restoration Water Project
Since 2003 more than 45 clubs in District 1010 have supported 7 water, health and sanitation projects in Nepal co-ordinated by the Rotary Club of Elgin in partnership with NEWAH(The Nepal Water for Health Group).
The opportunity now exists to visit the latest of these projects at the village of Majhta Thultar in Nuwakot District, north west of Kathmandu and to revisit Nepane in the Ghorka Region to see how this project, implemented in 2010, has been restored following the earthquake of 2015.
The visit offers a wonderful opportunity to see how clubs in District 1010, with the support of Rotary International and District grants, are transforming the lives of communities in this dreadfully poor country.
The visit which is open to Rotarians, partners and friends gives a fascinating insight to Nepal: its culture, its breath-taking scenery, its wildlife, its wonderful friendly people and all of the challenges it faces - not least after the 2015 earthquake.
For those privileged to visit previous water projects in Nepal it was a life changing experience and totally memorable.
Highlights, apart from the visits to the project villages, include exploring Kathmandu, visiting ancient Bhaktapur, discovering beautiful Pokhara and watching sunrise over the Annapurna Range, Chitwan National park with its elephants, rhinos and canoe journey, Nagarkot and Namobuddha’s spectacular views of the Himalayas and as an optional, not to be missed extra, the early morning flight to Everest.
Moreover, the visit takes in the villages, countryside, culture and people of Nepal, allowing us to meet them in their homes and bringing us the fellowship of Tripureshor Rotary Club, the project partner club in Nepal.
