Macmillan says Thank You to Baldock Rotary

Macmillan fundraising manager for Hertfordshire, Georgia Clarke visits Baldock Rotary

Macmillan fundraising manager for Hertfordshire, Georgia Clarke recently came to Baldock Rotary club to give a presentation about the work and services of the cancer support charity and thank them for raising £850 from the collection by Rotary members and friends at Tesco’s earlier this year.

As everyone knows cancer is one of the top five reasons for premature death in the UK and 35,000 people suffer from it in Hertfordshire out of the 2.5 million across the country.

Seventeen people each day are diagnosed with cancer and seven people lose the fight against it each day in Hertfordshire.

These statistics make the need for supporting this charity more relevant and necessary.  Baldock Rotary members are pleased to be able to give up their time to support such a worthwhile cause.

The support services offered by the charity are extensive and varied and in keeping with the charities new motto of “Life with cancer is still life and Macmillan will help you live it”

Of the money raised by Macmillan 66% comes from donations and 28% from legacy gifts.  The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is one of their well-established fund-raising activities and this year it takes place on Friday, 29th September.  Coffee morning kits are available from the charities web-site.

The photographs shows Georgia presenting the Macmillan ‘make a difference’ certificate to Baldock Rotary President Mike Williams.
