Mock Interviews for the Year 11s

On Friday 26th January, Year 11 students at The Marches School tested out their interview skills by taking part in mock interviews with 40 members from 2 Oswestry Rotary Clubs. Interviewers kindly donated their time and expertise to provide over 200 mock interviews, lasting half an hour each for The Marches School Year 11 cohort, from 9am – 2pm followed by a closing ceremony.

The Interviews have been provided for The Marches School students since 2012, using a process and documentation previously pioneered by The Rotary Club of Wrexham Erddig. Rotarian John Thompson seeks volunteers from members of both clubs, their spouses and known contacts who are willing and capable of giving students the much needed experience. The experience of the interviewers guided the students to bring forward interesting and useful information which would be of interest to a prospective employer, and permitted valuable feedback and tips on how the students could succeed in future interviews.

John Thompson, Member of the Rotary Club, commented, “Many Club members have said that it was a real privilege to work with young people from The Marches School and help them to improve such an important life skill. Students seemed very keen to succeed and were remarkably open to the feedback provided by the process. We wish them and all the other students every success when they come to real-life interviews”.

Mrs Sarah Peacock, Associate Assistant Headteacher at The Marches School commented, “This valuable activity would not be possible without the kind support from the Rotary and local businesses and the school is grateful, as always, for the ‘real life’ opportunities these interviews offer”.
