The Rotary Club of Oswestry's annual Investment Competition attracted 9 teams from 3 schools this year with HSBC Oswestry's Senior Customer Services Officer Sean Makin invigilating the students' efforts to turn their notional investment of £10,000 into a profit over 6 months with only one change of investment allowed per month.

For the second year running, the winning school was St Martins whose EPJC Team showed Oswestry School and Moreton Hall a clean pair of heels with a notional profit of £7,248.85.

The winning team of Rhys Evans, Cai Williams, Charleigh Penrose and Jamie Jones were congratulated on their success at a recent Rotary meeting when they were each presented with a cheque for £25 by Rotary Club President David Davies and an HSBC 'Goody Bag' by Shirley Rodgers deputising for Sean Makin.  David Davies also presented a cheque for £100 to their teacher Mrs Hayley Smith who accepted on behalf of St Martins School.

President David Davies said: "Having met both of St Martins' winning teams, it is clear that these young students had clearly understood and identified with the challenge and gained very useful experience from taking part and this is, of course, the real objective of the competition."

"You have to be in it to win it!" said event organiser Robin Sinclair adding "In the past this competition has been won by teams from Oswestry School, Moreton Hall and The Marches School.  In the coming year, we very much hope that this competition will attract a larger number of entries not only from those schools, but also any local school who may not have not taken part before . . . if they are up to the challenge of preventing a hat-trick of wins by St Martins?"

The Rotary Club of Oswestry Investment Competition is open to all local schools and colleges and invites more teams to enter this autumn.  If your school would like to take part in the 2018-19 event please contact Robin Sinclair at The Rotary Club of Oswestry by email at rotarycluboswestry@gmail.com.
