Our annual Youth Speaks competition

We held another outstanding Youth Speaks competition this year, once again at All Saints Primary School. There were seven entries from All Saints, Broadstone Hall, Didsbury Road, Green End, Stella Maris, Tithe Barn and Westmorland Primary schools. Teams of three took part, and each made a presentation to the audience. Their chosen individual topics covered a wide range of subjects, included grafitti, feminism, plastic pollution, human parasites, success in life and slavery. Each team gave an outstanding presentation, which shows just how much hard work they had put into preparation for this.

As it was a competiton, there had to be winners, and this year that award went to Green End Primary School, with their discussion entitled "Feminism: The Final Frontier". In second place was Tithe Barn Primary School, whose topic was "What Impact is Plastic Having on the Sea?".

An award was also made to best Chair, Anisha from Tithe Barn school, best Speaker, Mohammed of Green End school, and best Proposer of the Vote of Thanks, awarded to Ryan of Didsbury Road school.

We are grateful to the Head Teacher and staff of All Saints Primary School for allowing the use of their premises for the Youth Speaks competition, to the two judges, Marilyn Gregory and Claire Tunnicliffe of Stockport Ladies Speakers Club, and especially to Rotarian Nan Ironside for coaching the teams and organising the event.
