Luton Chiltern Young Chef Competition

Luton Chiltern Rotary Club return to Barnfield College for their Young Chef Competition

For the eighth year Luton Chiltern Rotary Club recently held their annual Young Chef Competition at Barnfield College, Luton. This year there were ten entrants and our picture shows winner Julaika together with her tutor Millie Fulcher and Club President Brian Doggrell.

The students were asked to prepare a nutritional two course meal for under £15. In a very close contest the runner up was Sufian Hussain from Denbigh High School and the winner Julaika Jabreen, also from Denbigh High School.  We hope that Julaika will go forward to the District round of the competition to be held in the New Year. The winner and runner-up both received a trophy, an Amazon Gift Voucher and Certificate. All the competitors received Certificates. The winner also receives an engraved cup and framed certificate for display at her School for the next twelve months

Chefs  Artis Liverpool and Darren Searle gave up their free time to head the judging panel. Darren said that the standard was very high and the decision very difficult as only a few points separated the competitors. Our grateful thanks go to Barnfield College for the use of their kitchen facilities and dining room, to the local schoolteachers for their help and cheerful co-operation and to the students for competing so well.

The event was organised by Rotarian Mick Lord and our thanks go to him and his team for a well-run and enjoyable afternoon.
