– LOMBOK, INDONESIA"
As I am sure you will have
seen, on Sunday 5th August 2018 a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit the island of
Lombok in Indonesia, killing nearly 100 people and leaving at least 20,000
people in need of shelter. This devastating quake happened just a
week after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake killed 14 people. More deadly
aftershocks are possible.
Shelterbox is currently in
touch with the Past District Governor Eva Kurniaty and is liaising with other
existing Rotary contacts in the area. This weekend a ShelterBox Response Team
will be heading out to Indonesia to work alongside local Rotarians to further
assess the situation on the ground.
Shelterbox has kits and tents in the region to
support the people affected. However, at the present time the
Indonesian Government has not declared a state of emergency and more
information will only become available when the team arrives in Indonesia.
In the meantime for more further
information on the earthquake and how Shelterbox is responding please visit: https://www.shelterbox.org/lombok-earthquake
As the situation becomes clearer we will advise on
the next steps if Clubs wish to contribute to the disaster. Regards
District International Resource Committee"
