Visit to Airbus Broughton

Thirteen members and guests visited the Airbus factory in Broughton. We were met at reception by our host, Shaun Maloney and after registering by showing photographic proof of identity for security purposes we were issued with guest passes to allow access to the facility.

We were ushered into the guest area where photos and prose around the walls showed the history of the factory together with scale models of the Airbus range of planes and were treated to hot drinks and biscuits whilst Shaun showed a couple of videos explaining that only the aircraft wings are manufactured there. They are then shipped to Toulouse were they are married up to other components manufactured in France, Germany and Spain to make the whole aircraft.

We were then taken by bus (the site is huge) to the part where the massive wings for the Airbus 380 are made. The wings for the other planes are also manufactured in Broughton in similarly large buildings. No photographs or videos are allowed to be taken within the buildings, but a group shot of us outside is shown here.

After this we were then taken back by bus and we then repaired to the Chocks Away Diner on nearby Broughton Airport for lunch.

A  most interesting day which was enjoyed by all.

We have been invited back for a visit next year to look round one of the other factories which we will most certainly take up.
