Dementia Awareness week in alsager was the perfect occasion for Alsager Rotary To mark the completion of the groundwork and design phase for their sensory garden in Milton park, which is hoped will trigger memories through scents and sounds, for those who live with Dementia as well as providing a lovely garden for their careers and the whole community to relax in and enjoy. The re planting of shrubs and herbs etc is hoped to follow through shortly with the completion of the project expected to come to fruition around spring 2019.
Work has progress largely due to the efforts of Wendy Parker, the garden has been excavated , remodelled and planted through a difficult spring and summer in which constant rain was followed by a long drought. In spite of all that the elements threw at us the hard work is now beginning to bear fruit.
The sensory garden in Milton park which is the latest alsager rotary community project is starting to become established as the recent photos below show. Many hours of voluntary work by club members has brought it to the way you see it today. Having been watered regularly during our recent spell of very hot weather all the new planting is thriving and it is becoming the scented garden that was planned last year, attracting many butterflies and bumble bees through the summer months. Many grateful thanks have been forwarded to Smithy Nurseries who very generously donated all of the new bedding plants which has enabled Alsager Rotary to reach the completion of phase two of the design. The garden was designed and planned to be appreciated by those who are living with Dementia and also for the enjoyment of the entire community.
work on the project will continue to develop through September /October and is on schedule to be completed during Spring 2019
