I thought I would take a moment to introduce myself as the new ShelterBox Co-Ordinator for District 1060 and slightly longer to say thank you to Keith McDavid for the last 10 years.

My name is Iain Wilson and I’m a member of Southam 2000 – President for 2018-2019. I have been involved with ShelterBox for the last couple of years; including taking part in the ShelterBox Response Team selection process and displaying at several events and schools. My details are in the district directory (and below) – as was Keith, happy to discuss anything ShelterBox!

A word on Keith – he was the 1060 co-ordinator for 10 years and has spoken to Rotary/Inner Wheel Clubs, Schools, Scout groups and other organisations, attending over 200 talks in total. He has many stories and tales to tell – so best to let him tell them in his own words

“Back in late 2013 the Rotary Club of Aston introduced me to the Birmingham based Sikh Channel TV Station following the Philippines disaster and was asked by the TV Company to give a half hour televised interview about ShelterBox and what we were doing in the Philippines as a result I was given a donation of £5,900. This TV Channel broadcasts to Sikhs across the UK, Western Europe and Toronto so has quite a large following. 18 months on I was asked back again to discuss what ShelterBox was doing following the earthquake in Nepal. This resulted in me arranging for the Directors of the TV Station to visit ShelterBox HQ for the day, after which Sikh Channel Aid ran a tag line advert every day for a month for ShelterBox requesting donations which, subsequently, resulted in a total donation of £60,000 being given to myself & Liz Odell for ShelterBox. In another case following a very wet display one Sunday in Solihull when I collected £5.11 and saw just three people, two of whom were teachers. My £5.11 subsequently turned into just over £14,000 from the two teachers I met, one of whom is now a Rotarian and one of the schools has an Interact Club.”

Keith - thank you for the last 10 years and enjoy your well-earned “retirement”.  As detailed above, I took over from Keith on July 1st 2018 – please contact me with any questions or requests with regards to ShelterBox. I’ll be attending the District Conference in Southport and the District International Conference on 17th November – please feel free to talk to me then.
