Jackson/Christie Porridge Bowl retained in D1010
Report on this years Jackson Christie Final
The Jackson Christie Porridge Bowl is the trophy awarded to the winner of an annual Rotary golf competition between the Scottish Champion and the Pensilvania Champion. One year it is hosted in Pensilvania the next in Scotland.
This year it is in Scotland between Martin Forster RC Ellon and Mike Lintelman RC Rich-Mar.
"Indeed a great occasion with Mike. He and Nancy were wonderful guests - our kitchen has not been wiped and swept clean so frequently in a long time!
Preparation for the the first round at Cruden Bay was in the form of trying to get Mike spooked by Count Dracula at Slains Castle. It did not work as playing conditions were warm and windless! Martin felt lucky to be 1up.
Second Round at "The Boat" (-of-Garten) was more like the links on a rough day and the heather, broom and birch proved too close for Mike's comfort
Richard Ruddiman very kindly hosted the third round at Royal Aberdeen. He partnered the 2018 1010 Champ, Willie Skene, against Mike and I, but the mature skills prevailed! Martin winning 4 and 2.
Meanwhile Anne (Forster) took Nancy (Lintelman) up Mither Tap on Bennachie during one golf match, round Haddo Country Park during another and to the Green Loch and Ryvoan Bothy whilst at The Boat - nae a shop in sight!
We organised a DIY ceilidh, hosted by Mick & Hilary Gordon, with Frank Thompson, the Aberdeenshire ceilidh accordionist providing the music. Mike and Nancy can now strip the willow, do an eightsome at Mairi's wedding and waltz a St Bernard in a Canadian barn! Phyllis Ovenden, wife of Oldmeldrum Rotarian, Simon, was a fab. dancing instructress."
Chris Hall, an Ellon Rotarian and a Board Member of Ellon Castle Gardens Trust, kindly gave us a special tour of the Gardens, which include a collection of Yew Trees, over 500 years old, and considered by some to be the finest in the UK.
We hosted a BBQ with other Rotarians on a lovely evening in our garden.
All in all, a fabulous 4 days and many thanks to all those mentioned, plus my Anne who managed everything to do with the house and catering seamlessly, as well as giving Nancy her work outs.
