The Rotary Club of Grimsby supported the event by providing course marshals and an entertainment stall in the park.

Great Grimsby 10km 2019

The 2019 Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K started at 10am outside Grimsby Town Hall.

This year, race organisers had taken steps to reduce environmental impact, by ditching goodie bags for race finishers, handing out half as many plastic bottles and paper-free race information.

A £1 donation is made from every race entry into a fund shared between the event’s charity partners – Harbour Place, RNLI, Marie Curie, St Andrew’s Hospice, Grimsby Rotary Club, The Health Tree Foundation and Inspire TCI.

Last year’s Ørsted Great Grimsby 10K helped raise around £15,000 directly for the seven charities, plus lots more indirectly through sponsorship.  This year there were 4,000 runners on the day and around 450 course marshals.

Course Marshalls

The Club supplied a total of 15 marshals in and around People’s Park.  Before the event Marshals attended a 7:30 am briefing at the Grimsby Institute. We were provided with hi viz vests, a variety of food and refreshments and medical emergency contact numbers.  Our brief was to ensure runners were safe and encourage runners as they passed and the comments from the runners were very appreciative towards the Marshal teams. The Zone Manager was issued with a radio and ensured marshals were in place before the run started as well as troubleshooting the many interesting situations.

Our Stall in Peoples' Park

The team in the gazebo situated in the park and manned by five Rotarian’s ladies, provided games aimed at entertaining the 10,000 visitors during and after the race. These games raised funds for the Rotary benevolent fund, which were added to the £500 given to us by the Tape2Tape organisers.

The event raised our Grimsby Rotary profile in the community and our reputation for reliability as well as providing a useful amount for our benevolent fund.
