Dementia Action Week (DAW) 20 - 26 May

2019 DAW unites people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Did you know? Someone develops dementia every 3 minutes in the UK.

Dementia can turn lives upside down and there’s currently no cure. Most people know someone who has been affected by dementia but many don’t know where to turn for support.  Alzheimer’s Society are on hand to help anyone affected by dementia from providing information to understand a diagnosis and plan for the future through to offering personalised support. In addition to this they carry  out vital research that will help those living with the disease live better lives in their own homes as well as aiming for the ultimate cure and a ‘World without dementia’.

Many people with dementia can feel isolated and avoid interacts with their local communities. We want to end the stigma surrounding dementia by creating dementia friendly communities and assist people to remain socially active. Many clubs have made the first steps and we want to continue that!

Alzheimer’s Society is in its 40th year and as dementia continues to rise rapidly, they need us more than ever. There are loads of ways you can get involved and help increase awareness of dementia. Could your Rotary group take one small action?

Dementia Action Week (DAW) 20 - 26 May 2019

DAW unites people, workplaces, schools and communities to take action and improve the lives of people living with dementia.

Get ready for Dementia Action Week - Many of us worry about ‘saying the wrong thing' to someone with dementia, yet a friendly face or listening ear can make the world of difference.  This Dementia Action Week, we’re encouraging everyone to take action by starting a conversation; whether it’s calling a relative with dementia or visiting a neighbor, it’s time to start talking.

You can support the Week by attending an event near you, putting up our posters and sharing our film on social media.
