The District Final was the culmination of first round heats and Area Finals. Around 100 primary schools were enrolled at the start of the competition.

The winning team was Newport Primary School, the runners-up Strathdevon and Portessie Primary School finished in third place.

The District Final was organised and run by the Rotary Club of Carse of Stirling. Quizmaster was Carse’s President Elect Gordon Brewster. He was supported by Carse Club members, John Holme Assistant Governor and members from Aberdeen Clubs.

The contest was keenly fought with a broad range of questions which tested thoroughly the curriculum and general knowledge of these Primary 7 pupils. There were 10 rounds on a range of topics from Geography to Maths. A tie-break needed to be held to separate the High School of Dundee Junior School from Portessie.

Carse introduced a number of excellent innovations to the District Final.

Firstly a video of the event has been produced.   This demonstrates the effort that everyone - Rotarians, Primary School staffs, and, of course, the all-important contestants - put into this fun event.

Full use was also made of Social Media, especially Twitter. A Tweet Wall was in place with a specific hash tag so that the audience could engage fully with the final and post tweets for all to see. A small prize was offered for the best tweeter. And, while final scores were being added up, a game of heads and tails was run for the pupils ably organised by Carse Member Mike McCormick.

The District congratulates all Schools for reaching this stage and wishes good luck to Newport, Strathdevon and Portessie in the Scottish Final.

Carse thanks in particular John Johnstone (Manager at the Beach Ballroom) and John Milne (Aberdeen Rotarian) for their support and contribution in making the event a success.

The feedback from Schools, pupils and the audience has been excellent. All members of the Carse Team are grateful for this.
