14 Hawick High School pupils took part in our annual Young Chef competition – they had an hour and a half to cook a main course and pudding and were judged on the whole process as well as the end results. The standard was so high, the meals were delicious, and they all deserved praise but we had to pick two, plus a reserve, to go forward to the Borders Area finals. First place went to Ruathy Brogan, second Kaitlin Borthwick and reserve Elliot Stanger. Competitions don’t just happen and our thanks go to Morrisons for providing the food – particularly Charlene Bell for filling the boxes and Emily Grabowski for helping judge the competition. Shona Murray and the Home Economics staff organised the competition for us and were there for the pupils during it. Eileen Smith helped us with Judging. The Border Area finals are being held in the High School in early January.
