2020 - 100 club Autumn Draw

The 100 club is one of the club's regular fundraisers. Half goes in prizes, half to the benevolent fund for charitable purposes. Its growth success means that more members mean more prizes, and both our new members were winners in the Autumn Draw

Five Up Now – More In The Pot?

When we entered lockdown in March, Roger Kettle urged us to redouble efforts to recruit to our 100 club, a painless way to raise money during Covid-19.  Club members responded immediately, and our two new members joined too.

Then in August Roger Kettle announced that membership drive was so successful that it had enabled the Club to increase the number of units in the 100 Club and add a fifth prize to some of the  quarterly draws.

True to his word, at November’s draw, Roger handed out five prizes for the first time.  There was wide eyes all round as three of the five winners were Club members.  (Roger assures members there was no fix!)

International chairman Malcolm Acors took the £100 first prize AND BOTH new members, Michael Dunne and Brian Wellman, had winning entries.

Brenda’s Reward

Michael won £75 (second prize) and Brian received £25, which until this draw, was always the last call.  Now added – a fifth prize of £20 for the first time. Guess what? Even that stayed within the Club with it being won by Brenda Spiers who has made it possible for Norman Wilson to be transported and attend our pre-Covid meetings at Reids. You deserve it, Brenda!

Michael Dunne told the Newsletter: “I am one of those who never wins, so, to actually hear my name called out, was a bit of a shock.  All a bit of light fun, oh and what to do with the kitty? Why not give to a good cause each draw.”

Brian Wellman added: “Jammy! New member – why am I joining this elite group? To help raise funds for the Club of course. Won a prize in my first draw. How lucky and yes, I did feel a little embarrassed and humble but that didn’t last long. Soon recycled proceeds back to the club. Probably years before my name comes up again.”

Fifty-Fifty

As Roger explains: “I am delighted we have new members for our 100 Club and have been able to add a fifth prize. Half the money invested goes to charities and half to members in a series of quarterly prize draws and a special Christmas prize draw each year.”

“We will be looking at the Christmas draw to see if we can increase the amount of prize money.”
