2020 Christmas Doorstop Deliveries

Wed, Dec 23rd 2020 at 7:04 am - 9:04 am

After the ‘annus horribilis’ that was 2020, the Thame & District Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs brought some Christmas cheer to 80 elderly residents.

Because of Covid restrictions, the annual Thame and District Senior Citizens’ tea party could not be held last December. As an alternative, the organising committee comprised of members of Thame Town Council and the Thame & District Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs organised a Doorstop Delivery to elderly residents who would normally attend: a boxed afternoon tea, a seasonal table centre complete with tiny Christmas lights, and a Christmas Quiz for which the prize was a Waitrose hamper worth £50. The scheme was supported financially by a grant from South Oxfordshire District Council and donations from Hampden Masonic Lodge, Waitrose and the Sharing Life Trust.

The committee would like to thank our generous sponsors and the volunteer drivers – including Rotarians - who delivered the gifts.

Ann Midwinter, Mayor of Thame said: “helping with the distribution of the tea boxes was one of the highlights of my year, and after the year everyone has just had, hopefully it bought some much-needed Christmas cheer.”
