Lunchtime Meeting - 12:45pm - Speaker Veronica Lillis, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire

Mon, Jul 17th 2023 at 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm

Mark's speaker today will be Mrs Veronica Lillis, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire

Veronica Lillis, the Deputy Lieutenant of Shropshire, was the guest at a recent meeting of Oswestry Rotary Club when she explained about the role of the Lieutenancy, the Lord-Lieutenant and Deputies and, importantly, how the community can help with feedback and suggestions

Honoured to act as 'the eyes and ears' of the Lord-Lieutenant by seeking out examples of the work and dedication of people from all walks of life to make their community a better place, during the recent Coronation celebrations Veronica had attended many events such as tree plantings and the unveiling of Oswestry's Coronation plaque by the Guildhall on the Bailey Head.

Finding out about the activities of Oswestry Rotary Club Veronica said: "I was particularly interested to learn about ‘Lifeline', your Club's Year 6 Life Lessons project at Park Hall in September each year.

"I encourage you to invite Anna Turner, the Lord Lieutenant, to attend. I am sure she will be happy that I come with her (or represent her if she cant make it) and it sounds a great event.."

Finally, Veronica invited the Rotarians to help recognise remarkable achievements by nominating people, or companies, for an award or honour from The King via the Lieutenancy's website https://www.lordlieutenantofshropshire.org.uk/helping-you/nominate-someone-for-an-honour/.

Club President, Mark Liquorish, thanked Veronica for taking the time to talk about the Lieutenancy to the Club.  "What a wide variety of activities you become involved with - I hope that you find the remaining years of your tenure rewarding."
