As the expected speaker was unable to speak to the club due to covid infection we were fortunate in Mia Noquet agreeing to take his place. Mia, from the MY NAME’5 DODDIE Foundation, originally came to the club to receive the donated cheque of £6,500. The funds came from a raffle and a charity day at the international golf competition held this summer. The the cheque was presented by the organiser Douglas Jackson. Mia talked about famous rugby player Doddie Weir who played No 5 for Scotland many times.  He decided to make public his diagnosed condition of Motor Neurone Disease in 2017 and subsequently worked to raise awareness of the disease. Mia described how, every week, the foundation team of ten individuals are trying to find a cure, and are involved in different fundraising events, raising money for research and clinical trials.  At the moment there are 400 people based all around the country who are taking part in research, using different drugs and treatments to help find a cure and to pressurise the government for even more research.

Mia was warmly thanked by Douglas Jackson for speaking so effectively at such short notice; he wished her well for her work with the foundation.
