CHARTERED ON 17 SEPTEMBER 1984, OUR CLUB HAS ENTERED ITS 39th YEAR OF SERVICE

WELCOME! WE ARE THE ROTARY CLUB OF BRETBY

I am pleased to welcome you our website. Trying to explain what a Rotary Club is and does would take far too long. If you are interesting in helping others and volunteering to give back to those less fortunate in our Community come and meet us. We ensure all our members enjoy themselves while giving valuable Community Service.

We are the evening Rotary Club for Burton upon Trent and South Derbyshire. and meet every second and fourth Monday at Branston Golf & Country Club, 6.45pm for 7.15pm (apart from Bank Holidays). On other weeks we meet socially or by Zoom videoconferencing.

I have the honour to be the President of the Club for the Rotary year 2022-2023 and I invite you to browse the newly updated website, to gain information about our Club, how the Club works, what projects we support and how we enjoy ourselves.

If you are not a Rotarian then please look at either the top left ‘MENU’ which will take you to the 'NEW MEMBERS' section or the 'WHAT WE DO' button at the top right of this page – the drop-down Menu will also take you to New Members page. If you would like to talk to someone about joining us then please click the CONTACT “tab” at the top of the page.

At Bretby Rotary we have a strong commitment to serving the local community, coupled with at least one international project each year. We are a small but energetic team, and are always looking for like-minded people to join in with us and have some fun doing satisfying work.

Our ongoing two recent major projects include continuing with our work with the Burton YMCA, specifically raising funds for the YMCA to replace their utility vehicle which serves all their many activities.

The second is supporting the Charity “Happy Readers” in Zimbabwe, where working in partnership with our friends of our “twinned” German club Lingen Ems, the Rotary Club of Harare, Zimbabwe and Rotary International. The issue this Project seeks to address is: Most girls in Zimbabwe do not complete their education. Research has shown the principal reason is they leave Primary level without being able to read. Our support will help the charity expand their impressive scheme for teaching young girls to read English to a level where they can teach/educate themselves, the Project has a success rate of well over 95%, allowing the participants to finish Secondary education, obtain good jobs and in the process support and teach others.

Why not come and meet and talk to us? You’ll be surprised at the wide range of activities with which are involved, and how much we enjoy ourselves, whilst achieving life-changing improvements for the recipients.
