About us

Meets on Fridays for breakfast at Westgate and Birchington Golf Club,

176 Canterbury Road, Westgate, CT8 8LT, 7.45am — 9:00am

Members are from all walks of life, both working and retired.
We are a vibrant club with a community focus.

We value friendship and fun with little formality

We also work with other local Rotary clubs in Thanet
supporting projects benefiting the community.

Rotary is about enjoying ourselves and enriching the life of others.

Rotary is great for making friends

We are starting to get back to normal now that the Pandemic is, we hope, waning. Breakfast meeetings are now every other week on the first and third Friday. We also have coffee meetings at Joe's Cafe

We are part of Rotary International. 1.2 million members worldwide. We support our community with various projects and some great and original fundraising events - we also enjoy a varied social life with other members and their families.

Rotary promotes worldwide peace and friendship and responds in times of need or disaster at home or abroad . We have been very active through the pandemic supporting our community and clubs up and down the country have been volunteering to support the vaccine rollout.

Rotary is well known for playing an active part in the worldwide End Polio Now campaign over many decades and Polio has now almost been eradicated, we are so proud of this.

We are very informal and our normal routine is to meet regularly for breakfast replaced every few weeks with a coffee meetup . At breakfasts over the month we have speakers, one meeting to discuss the club's business plus projects.  And one meeting that has no specific focus other than to just enjoy breakfast with our friends. Meetings start early (hence our name Sunrise) 7.45 - 9:00am  - It's not everyone's cup of tea but some like an early start to their day and it's a really good breakfast! Our club has a fairly even mix and men and women including five couples.

We welcome potential members to breakfast as a guest to enable them to find out more about who we are, what we do and what makes the club so special for us get up so early!

Of course at this time we are having to do things differently like all clubs, groups and organisations but we have adapted and have still made a difference where it matters - our Christmas fundraising enabled us to donate to seven local charities, including the Pilgrims Hospice, Kent Association for the BLind and the Salvation Army in addition to  Coronavirus support . We also supported Oasis Womens' refuge with Christmas hampers.

So, if you want to know more come and meet us when it's safe to do so or get in touch for a chat.
