About us

jACQUEWELCOME! : Introduction to Rotary

There is a popular misconception that Rotary is an exclusive, male-only organisation, which invites the sort of people to join who would fit in with its professional status, and whose members must attend each week.

This is no longer correct!

Rotary has included female members for some years, and contains a wide social mix of occupations. We certainly do not insist on a strict code of attendance; we know that people have busy lives and want to enjoy being part of our group.  And we are looking for new members!

What we do is meet weekly for an evening meal at the Great House in Hawkhurst  We meet for friendship and fellowship, to listen to speakers on a wide variety of topics; plan our upcoming fundraising projects; and organise different social events, such as snooker, ten pin bowling, putting and so on.

There is a popular conception that Rotary does good works.  This is correct!

So, what kind of activities had we been engaging in prior to the current lockdown enforced by Covid-19?  The Rotary Club of Cranbrook & Hawkhurst were running a popular charity shop, Charities At Home, in Cranbrook until we sadly had to close at the end of January 2020.  You will have seen us at different events in both Cranbrook & Hawkhurst, such as the Cranbrook Apple Fayre, Hawkhurst Winter and Summer fetes, dressing a tree at the St. Laurence church Festival and, of course, we had many plans too for this year.  We run the McMichael stroke club with a full programme of activities and many of you will have seen us with our buckets, outside of local supermarkets at Christmas, collecting funds for various charities.  We have a long list of, mainly local, charities and good causes that we support, from the Air Ambulance, to Hospice in the Weald, to luncheon clubs for the elderly, to clubs for children - football, scouts and many more.

We see ourselves as supporters of our local communities, and aim to get involved where we can

We would be delighted to hear from you about joining us or just coming along to start with to try us out!
