INTRODUCTION
The first Rotary club was formed in Chicago in 1905. There are now 46,000 clubs worldwide with 1.4 million members. Each club looks for ways to benefit and serve their community and to jointly work on projects internationally.
We would welcome the opportunity to share our fellowship and community service with like-minded people who are unable to offer the time and commitment required of members. There are no costs involved.
A Friend is not a member of Rotary and so not subject to the responsibilities of full membership. Rather, a Friend has a formal association with the club, which provides an avenue to participate in club activities.
To be enrolled as a Friend of Dartmouth Rotary you will be nominated by a member and the nomination approved by the Club Council. After acceptance of the nomination, new Friend will be welcomed at a meeting of the club.
There is no minimum attendance requirement at club meetings but it is hoped that Friends will wish to attend at least one club meeting or social event per quarter and undertake at least one voluntary fundraising or service activity each year. Meals and costs of social activities are optional. Our activities currently include running a summer fete in Avenue Gardens, a beer festival in the autumn, and assisting with Candlelit at Christmas time. We also work with local schools and local clubs. All these events require help.
Dartmouth Rotary Club meets at 1.00pm on Thursday lunchtimes at the George and Dragon in Mayors Avenue, Dartmouth, except for one business meeting each month which is held at the same venue but at 6.00pm. Lunchtime meetings are for one hour with food optional. Business meetings are also one hour duration with an optional meal following.
As a Friend you will receive copies of all business meeting minutes and have access to our website where you will be able to keep up to date with all club affairs and to sign up to help with all club events and social get-togethers which partners will be welcome to join. At any time a Friend would be able to apply for full membership of the club through the same joining procedure that exists at present.
If you would like to become a Friend please complete the application form overleaf and send to the membership officer.

Our club members pool their resources to aid local clubs and organisations, from sports clubs to community-based support groups, like Dartmouth Caring and TQ6, as well as larger groups like Childrens Hospice South West and Shelterbox.
