There have been two Rotary clubs in Newquay over the years.
The first club was established in 1923 and served the town actively for many years. However, due to the difficulties and uncertainties leading up to the Second World War, the club sadly ceased to function and was formally disbanded in 1939.
Following the end of the war, efforts to reintroduce Rotary to Newquay began. In 1946, Bill Baker, a member of the Rotary Club of Truro, was asked by Bill Bailey, a Past President of Truro Club and later District Governor of R.I.B.I. District 117, to carry out a survey of Newquay with the aim of forming a new Rotary club. Thanks to their efforts, Rotary was successfully re-established in the town, continuing the tradition of service and community involvement that remains strong to this day.
