The Wheels Challenge 2017 - Orthopaedic Hospital 1.45pm

Tue, Apr 18th 2017 at 1:45 pm - 2:45 pm

Commencing in Manchester on 9th April the relay will wend its way through Britain and Ireland to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Join us on the Oswestry leg.

In the lead up to the Inter Spinal Unit Games 2017 Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland are launching a fundraising initiative for WheelPower which will go towards their Spinal Unit Project.

Rotarians with support from the WheelPower team are organising a relay that will mean a sports wheelchair is transported, from the Rotary GB&I Conference 2017 in Manchester to the Inter Spinal Unit Games 2017 at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, using as many modes of transport as possible.

Along the route we would like to include visits to as many spinal injury centres which will not only build momentum in the lead up to the Games but give local Rotary Clubs more information about the impact of the Games and in turn more involved in raising funds for WheelPower to help each of the spinal injuries centres.

The proposed dates for this fundraising relay is starting in Manchester on Sunday 9 April and arriving at the Inter Spinal Unit Games arrival day on Monday 24 April.

Members from Oswestry's Rotary Clubs together with District Governor Molly Youd, pushed in the chair, and the staff from the spinal unit welcome the WheelPower sports wheel chair to the The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Spinal Unit in Oswestry to continue its journey to Stoke Mandeville Sports Centre.
