Community Committee

​Over the last few years the Community Committee and all our Club has organised A Rotary Club of Dronfield Santas’s Sleigh. We have been joined by members of local businesses Staves Estate Agents and member of staff from Ferndale Garden Centre

Poverty at home 2020 and the Covid 19 Pandemic

Organising Santa’s Sleigh which brings so much fun to the town during the dark December evenings. It also raises substantial funds for Community Projects in our area as well as supporting International appeals for help following natural disasters.

Organising the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in the Town the 2019 appeal raised £17,475.12.

The 2020 collection will be different due to Covid 19 restrictions. Sainsbury and Aldi will have boxes of Poppies on the end of their tills with collection tins to make a donation. Some local schools will sell Poppies to their children. We will updatee our Social Media with the full details.

In 2020 Santa’s Sleigh and the Poppy Appeal will again be organised by the Club. We need your help to make it a success contact us through the website or ring our Club Hotline 07445 050988 all details on the website.

In addition we are in discussion with the Town Council about the following Community Iniative:- 

  1. Establish a Rotary Heart Walk around Cliffe Park to encourage people who have suffered heart attack, stroke or other illness in their recovery by walking short distances.

In the Rotary year July 2023- 1 July 2024 the following projects have been/are being completed by the Community Committee 

1. Holmesfield Toddler Group were provided with a play kitchen and toy equipment, plus a dolls house and stables for the children’s use.
2. Agreement was reached with Bolsover Woodland Enterprise and Duckmanton Primary School to provide and fund an Outdoor Forest Classroom for the School.  Work on this is ongoing but completion by Rotary Year end is expected.  
3. Stop the Bleed Kits for S18.  Following consultations with the local Community Policing Unit and the Community First Responders.10 kits have been purchased and to date 5 installed with permissions being followed up but  still awaited for locating the other 5.  
4. GreatDronfield Get2gether in October was sponsored by the Club at a cost of £95.
5. Dronfield in Bloom was sponsored for the 5th year to plant up the ladles at the entrance to the town twice a year.  Cost to the Club £300 per annum.  This has brought to an end our agreed sponsorship and I can report that Dronfield Civic Society has taken over.  
6. Entertain for Ukraine Take 2  The Committee helped to organize this event.  
7. Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.  Assistance was given to SVP Joyce in the distribution of Poppy items and donation cans and collecting in of donations as well as manning collection points at Sainsbury’s and Aldi.
8. Morrocan Earthquake Victims.   The Committee organized a bucket collection over 2 days at Dronfield Aldi, which with Gift Aid raised £662.86.
9. Santa’s Grotto  organized in the Civic Hall for the Xmas lights switch on and this year inadvertently made a profit

10.Breakfast with Santa at The Barn.  Committee provided Father Christmas for this event. 

11. Christmas Tree Display – assisted with the setting up of this event in Dronfield Parish Church.  

12. Provided Father Christmas for party at Dronfield Baptist Church pre school Christmas Party.  

13. Santa’s Sleigh.  Organised all aspects of the Static displays and trips round the streets for the Sleigh in 2023, which raised a record of over £6600, plus £1000 in sponsorship and over £1650 in Gift Aid.  

14. FODS.  Sponsorship of planter on Dronfield Station in sum of £50.  

15. Coal Aston Methodist Church.  £500 grant made to church to upgrade their AV equipment.  As a result 5 members of congregation joined our Community Lottery.  

16. Defib for Rutland Arms Holmesfield.  Have been assisting landlord to obtain grants from local Holmesfield organisations to purchase a defib. 

17. Dronfield Ukraine Convoy. Have been assisting with the collection of tinned food and other equipment to be taken by convoy to Ukraine on 4 June 2024. Club will donate £500 to purchase other essential items. 

18. Old Foreign Currency.  Have been collecting currency for project in South Africabeing organized by District 1220 E Club.  

19. Life Dronfield.  Have visited this project to establish if there is anything that RCD can assist with.  This will become a project for the next Rotary Year. 

20. Defibs in S18 supplied by St John Ambulance.  RCD has been approached by several businesses in Dronfield, which have had a letter from St John stating that the defibs need to be replaced or removed at the business expense because of their age.  Discussions taking place with Dronfield First Responders and Dronfield Eye. 

21. Articles for Dronfield Eye have been written and pictures supplied for publication

Our Community

more Dronfield is in North East Derbyshire in central England. It comprises of five communities Dronfield, Dronfield Woodhouse. Coal Aston, Apperknowle and Unstone within the S18 postcode area.
