The Rotary Club of Brit Valley and Bridport Round Table have kindly donated to our Dementia Friendly Exercise Classes.
The session organiser and instructor, Ally, said: “I am so grateful to have received these donations to keep the class running. To be able to help those living with dementia to exercise, sing, dance, and do activities really is a highlight of my week.
Having started these sessions 4 years ago, I have seen how living with this illness affects the carers too, so our sessions are a help to them as well. If anyone would like more information about this class, please do get in touch.”
Dementia-friendly exercise classes take place at Bridport Leisure Centre each Tuesday from 1:45 pm to 3:15 pm.
Participants enjoy chair exercises to help mobilise and keep the muscles working, which helps to stimulate brain and neurological impulses. This is followed by singing and dancing to keep minds active and maintain cognitive function.
The sessions also give carers a chance to meet up and chat to others in a similar position.
Following the gentle exercise session, tea and coffee are served to allow time for an important catch-up between friends and carers.
Previously funded, these sessions support both those living with dementia and their carers and are an important community service, so we are extremely grateful for these kind donations.
