WENSLEYDALE WANDER 2016

An annual 12 or 23 mile round walk in scenic Wensleydale on 9th April 2016, in aid, this year, of the Friarage Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal, and local Rotary charities. Very friendly and great fun.

Come and join us for a friendly and sociable walk in Wensleydale in aid of charities. There is a choice of two circular walks, one a 23 mile challenge and a shorter one of 12 miles, both starting and finishing in Leyburn. There are liquid refreshments at various checkpoints in both walks, while warm food is provided at the halfway point on the longer walk. All walkers receive a hot meal at the finish in Wensleydale School from 12MD to 5pm . Showers are also available. The routes are well sign-posted and marshalled, so no one is likely to get lost! Both Walks begin at 9.00am in Grove Square, though walkers first gather for registration at Wensleydale School, where car-parking is available. The walk is limited to a maximum 8 hours, and all entries should be received prior to the event. Entries on the day subject to limitation on numbers not reached- a note will be placed on the website if such has occurred. All finishers will receive a certificate.

The Entrance Fee is 10.00 per walkerif paid by 2nd April by mail or 8th April 6pm by on-line entry (12 after that), with all proceeds going to charities. To enter, you can either click on Entry Form to download one, or you can use online booking-

NB- Under 18's are welcome when accompanied by an adult but  On Line booking is only available for over 18 year olds. Please use the downloadable Entry Form route for anyone under 18 

The principal charity for the event, this year, is the Friarage Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal. Sponsorship for this or other charities is encouraged but not essential.  Forms for Sponsorship can be downloaded by clicking on Sponsorship forms.

RULES

1  Observe the country code.

2  Checkpoints are to be visited in order.

3  Walkers must keep to way marked route on public rights of way.

4  Entrants can only retire at checkpoints.

5  Minimum age 18 unless accompanied by an adult. (Due to new Legislation)

6  It is recommended that all competitors carry or wear; Waterproofs, OS map Outdoor leisure 30 Yorkshire Dales (Northern & Central areas)& Middleham Sheet SE 18

7  Due to lambing time, and the nature of the route, - NO DOGS ALLOWED, except on lead.

 Entrance Fee 10.00 per competitor if paid by 9th April (12 after that). Cheques/PO payable to Rotary Club of Wensleydale

PLEASE NOTE ALL WALK NUMBERS WILL BE SENT OUT WITH FULL DETAILS OF THE WALK WHEN AN APPLICATION IS RECEIVED. THIS WILL BE BY EMAIL UNLESS YOU SEND A SAE. ANY PEOPLE NOT ALLOCATED A PLACE WILL HAVE THEIR CHEQUE/PO RETURNED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

This popular Walk/Run was back to normal in 2023, so we hope to see many new entrants in 2024, as well as our regulars, some of whom have been coming for 20 years or more! This year, we are again supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
