LUNCH MEETING

A total of 20 people attended lunch at HPGC. 

The Golf Club has employed a new chef, Daryl Moore and this was our first lunch with him in charge. Prior to lunch President Alan went into the kitchen to introduce Rotary. He hoped all the members present enjoyed lunch (Chicken and Ham Pie, Chips and Cauliflower Cheese) and that the standard set is maintained The meal was very enjoyable.
A total of 21 meals were ordered based on peoples apologies and thus the club had to pay for 1 additional meal.

Welfare Issues - John Kibbler - Tony Chandler gave update on John’s current condition. He is in Wigan Hospital (Winstanley Ward) and has pneumonia as well as other concerns about his health at the present time. His daughter who lives in the US has travelled over to the UK to be with him.

Visits to Report - Ken Smith and Bob Thomson gave summaries of Jack Bradshaw’s and Eric Fearnley’s funerals.

Warm Spaces - At the business meeting (22 Nov) we debated how we might support the local community this winter by using our financial resources in the most effective way. It was agreed in principle to support up to ten local organisations with a donation to be spent supporting those in hardship.
Several ideas centred around Churches and other community groups who might be providing warm spaces where we could assist with energy bills for example. It was also recognised that there may be other causes looking for short term, immediate help.

Five projects were discussed and agreed unanimously. Details can be found on our Helping the Community 22/23 page under Fighting Poverty in the Community.

Lock In at the Firkin -30 November  Organised by Ian Parr - Good night was had by all, with a quiz, food and plenty of good beer. Collection raised £100 which will be donated to Polio Plus.

Christmas Float - Len Rainford/Alan Robinson - Father Christmas attended the Earlestown Christmas Lights switch on and the Newton High Street Hub Christmas Market.

The following evening routes have been completed so far - Braithwaite Road, Birds Estate and Fairbrothers Estate. Details of our schedule are on the events page.

Shoeboxes - Craig Roberts/Ray Edwardson - a total of 71 Shoeboxes were collected and dispatched on Tuesday 29^th November. See our International page for further details

Christmas Cards - Ray Edwardson - Ray still has a number of pack’s of Christmas Card for sale if any member would like to purchase them.

Christmas Raffle - Jansa Project - Ray Edwardson/ Phil Round/ Alan Pomfret have raffle tickets which are available at £1 per ticket or £5 per strip, available at the Christmas Lunch or by contacting President Alan at any time. The raffle will be drawn at lunch on Tuesday 20th December.
If any members would like to donate a bottle of wine, spirit, box/carton of chocolates please pass on the either Ray Edwardson or myself.
