MYJO Fundraising Concert

Fri, Jun 13th 2025 at 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

The award-winning Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra return for a fundraising concert in support of the League of Friends of the Alexandra Hospital.

Music lovers can enjoy a great night out, as well as supporting The League of Friends of Alexandra Hospital when the highly acclaimed Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) returns to Redditch for the first time since the pandemic.

The concert, promoted by the Rotary Club of Redditch, is taking place at Tudor Grange Academy, Redditch, on Friday 13th June at 7.45pm, and is the fifth occasion that MYJO have performed in support of Rotary and its charity partners.

MYJO has been described as one of the world’s top young big bands, featuring musicians aged 18-25. For twenty years it was unbeaten in the BBC National Big Band Competition, including the final year in 2006.  The band has been successful in a number of international big band competitions and has appeared in concert with many of the most famous names in jazz and entertainment.

The band is led by top trumpeter John Ruddick MBE, who has performed with the Don Lusher Big Band and BBC Big Band, and worked with such names as Sir Bruce Forsyth, George Shearing, Peggie Lee and Claire Teal. In 2014, John was awarded an MBE for his work with MYJO, which is itself a charity.

Over the years, MYJO has nurtured talented young players from the area, several of whom have made successful careers in the music industry. In recent years, its line-up has included Xhosa Cole, winner of BBC Young Jazz Musician 2018.

Tickets for this terrific concert, £14, can be obtained from various sources, locally and online. Email myjoredditch@gmail.com for further details, and to purchase tickets.
