On Wednesday the 9th of October 2019 Jordans & District Rotary Club held a Technology Tourament at The Chalfont Community College, the College very kindly hosted the competition for the third year and invited teams from the local area to join in. This year we had entrants from Wycombe Abbey School, The Beaconsfield School joining teams from Chalfont making 11 teams in all.
The project is a tough one involing the students to build a vehicle with a crane attachment which would move down the track, pick up a barrel with a metal plate by the magnet attached to the crane and lower and raise this magnet using the battery thus picking up and lowering the barrel.
The teams were assessed in Key-stage 3,4 & 5 by slightly altering the project aims by difficulty and then challenging the final vehicle made by each team to produce a flawless run. The teams were also required to produce a wrtten and drawn outline of their ideas and results of both failures and successes to be marked towards their final marks.
The vehicles were to be made from wood, card, string, elastic bands, wire, batteries, wheels, glue and other smaller items supplied to each table to make it as fair as possible.
The winning teams were Foundation, Wycombe Abbey Intermediate, The Beaconsfield School Advanced and The Chalfont Community College.
Members from the Rotary Club trust that the teams enjoyed their day as the results were produced from their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The Club very much appreciated Chalfont Community College for hosting the day and look forward to repeating it again in the next shool year 2020
