 
                                                        
                            Coal Posts (or Markers) of which there are five different types were erected, in a very rough “circle” or “ring” around London in 1861, following an Act of Parliament in that year, to identify the boundary of the area whereby coal duty would be payable to the City of London for coal brought into that area.
