Croquet? 2005

Croquet is possibly the last opportunity for civilised men and women to recreate the flavour of a mediaeval battlefield...at least that's how it can seem when your ball, carefully positioned for knocking through the hoop, is sent heading for the hills by some beggar you thought was a friend. But then, on the other hand, if it's his ball that's sitting there carefully positioned for knocking through the hoop......Once a year (recovery is slow) Southport Rotarians and friends descend upon the Croquet Club in Victoria Park to beat the "H" out of the spherical objects, and then tell stories afterwards over a Tony Brough Barbeque. Great.
