Jenny Auber of Oxfam gives an inspiring talk on the work of Oxfam in Senegal

Fri, Jul 24th 2009 at 12:00 am -

Oxfam's experience as a global charity is performing small miracles in Senegal

Jenny as former headmistress explains the location of Senegal in true 'headmistress' style following some rather inaccurate explanations as to it's location.

Jenny kept a rather lower than normal turn out of Woodbridge Rotarians well focused on Oxfam's work in Senegal supporting local people who have the ability to deliver long term improvements to the wlefare of the population. A particular example was how they have supported a person who is converting the common Ronier Palm into some rather attractive furniture which is providing a source of income to him and his faliy and workers.  Similarly, unsold garments from the Oxfam shops are sorted in and re-traded on the streets of Dakar providing a valuable productive business income for those in the supply chain and at the same time positively re-cycling unsold or unsuitable donated stock. Rtn Sandie Hamilton gave a vot of thanks on behalf of the club.
