Race Results, Evening Meeting at The Mermaid Sands Racecourse

Friday 6th November 2009

20.30 Race One.

The Efficient Freight Fillet Steaks: Four competing Ladies were soundly beaten by a country mile, Mrs Barbara Thomas riding Franks Fancy 'Maggie May'.

The prize was awarded by Mr John Meadows.

21.00 Race Two.

The Abbott & Abbott Completion Derby: A steady ride by Merlin of the McMath table (www.mcmathfoundation.co.uk) riding Unruly Roger whose owner HRH Princess of Sweden was unable to attend due to court duties.

Mr Rodney Gadsden, THE Local Estate Agent presented the Gold Plate.

21.30 Race Three.

The Long-mired Novice Chase: ridden by Gentleman riders who hold a RDC Bus Pass, an usurprisingly pedestrian pace, eventually won by Robin Pole of Senlac Rotary, riding Barrel of Laughs owned by the Cooper syndicate.

Mrs Trish Longmire represented the Family in presenting the prize.

21.50 Race Four.

Cider-rama Stakes: apprentice riders who were barred from carrying whips.

A highly controversial finish as two Jockeys fought for the winning post, two Bexhill Rotarians, Ray Dixon riding Welsh Wizard of John the Water and Rodney Gadsden riding Rampant Robin of Luscious Lynn.

Welsh Wizard was declared the winner after an appeal from Rampant Robin, the rider maintaining his horses' bottom was over the line before his head!!! Rodney Gadsden has been suspended from riding for 7 days for wasting Stewards time.

President Roger (cider drinker) presented the award.

22.15 The Mermaid Premium Carvery Championship;
