ROTARY PRESIDENT TAKES KIDS OUT FOR THE DAY

On an outing organised by Raouf Oderuth of the Youth Service committee of Bexhill Rotary Club, President Roger accompanied twenty six pupils from Sidley Primary School to Knockhatch Adventure Centre on the national Rotary KidsOut Day.

It was the eleventh year that Rotary clubs from all over the country have arranged similar outings, designed to give disadvantaged youngsters a day of fun and freedom to roam and play and take part in activities under the watchful eyes of school staff and volunteer helpers.

The ages of the children ranged from five to eleven and they were selected, as explained by the school's deputy head Mr James Freestone, on merit based on a system where points were awarded for behaviour and positivity rather than solely academic achievement. Generally three pupils were chosen from each class with a "few more" from year six.

Helping out and having fun with the children on the day were parents Fran Picknell, Glenda Persaud, Marian Penfold, Nicky Turner and Louise Murphy.

Activities included a falconry display, rowing on the lake, getting up-close to animals and tractor rides with a break for their packed lunch at midday.

President Roger reported later that "a thoroughly good day was had by all on this brilliant day out for the kids".
