Children Living With HIV/Aids - How We Can Help

AIDS in Africa has decimated the adult population.

There are now 1.5 million orphans in South Africa alone with over 500 a day being added to that number.

Every 14 seconds a child will become an orphan. While you watch the video below, 10 children will become AIDS orphans.

These children are destitute and cold. Many of them are infected with HIV AIDS themselves. It often falls below freezing in sub tropical Africa.

By learning how to knit, you can knit an 8 x 8"(20 x 20cm) square to send to Africa to be made into blankets for these children. This is a simple task which takes little time and costs even less.20

Keeping a child with HIV AIDS warm is important
Keeping a child warm makes a difference. We all understand how awful it is to be cold, but many of us have not experienced the misery of being cold all night, every night, hungry, and perhaps sick as well.
Many of the children are themselves infected by HIV AIDS. As it is an auto immune disease, keeping warm helps their ability to stay well.
Perhaps the most heart-warming outcome of your efforts is that the children receive a hand-made gift which not only keeps them warm but sends them a message, from the world, that their plight is known.

We have a lofty goal for 2009: 5,000 blankets. We are making the blankets as follows:
3 x 4 (12) cot blanket
(new borns)
6 x 4 (24) smallest
(babies20to about 3 yrs)
7 x 5 (35) medium (4
