Teignmouth Boat Spotted in Sri Lanka

Fishing again after the tsunami

Jim Eggleston and his wife were holidaying in Sri Lanka and they decided to visit the coastal town of Negombo, when to their surprise they saw a Teepan fishing boat with the inscription ‘Rotary Club of Teignmouth – UK’ on the side.  The boat was obviously well used as could be seen from the fishing gear ready for the next trip.

Although Mr Eggleston lives in Derbyshire and has no connection with Rotary he very kindly traced the Teignmouth club and sent the picture with congratulations for their initiative in supporting the region after the devastation caused by the tsunami.

Roger Handover from Teignmouth Rotary  said the members were  delighted to receive the news of a sighting of one of the 28 boats we funded through the Rotary Club of Nikaweratya, in Sri Lanka, to give the local fishermen back their livelihood which had been totally destroyed.
