Kilmarnock Rotary Club held its first Young Musician Competition on Wednesday 19th January 2011.

Entries were sought from local schools and David Jones and Ashley Snaddon represented Stewarton Academy; Calum Cuthbert and Karen Purdie represented James Hamilton Academy; Jenna Campbell represented St. Joseph's while Kilmarnock Academy were represented by Gregor Keachie and Fraser Murray.

The audience was treated to some very fine singing and musicianship in the two sections to the competition.

Our Judges were Elizabeth Clark, a BBC Scotland Senior Content Producer and our own Club President Willie Stewart, a superb singer in his own right who stood in at the last moment when Caroline Hurst, a lecturer in singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama was unavoidably detained in Glasgow.

Elizabeth gave an excellent and encouraging critique to each musician before announcing the winners
