Fundraising for Charities

Help for the Homeless - When the management of the Wharfside Shopping Centre invited us to organise a 'Santa's Grotto' in town in the lead up to Christmas 2015, Rotarians were quick to respond to the call. Thanks to the determination of Rtn. Di Hickman and the fast work of staff and students at Penwith College, a grotto was constructed and ready for use in little more than three weeks. During the two Saturdays before Christmas, over two hundred young children were accompanied by family members on their vists to our Rotarian Santas.

With homelessness in Penzance a particular concern during the winter months, Penzance Rotary Club members agreed to use the funds raised from running the Christmas Grotto as a donation to the St Petroc's Society - a charity for the homeless that runs a drop in centre in the town.

The Rotary Shop in Penzance - The Rotary Shop accepts good quality second hand goods (not electrical) from all members of the community, then sells them back to the community (and to visitors), raising useful profits which we give back to the community in the form of grants.

Funds raised through the Rotary Shop help a wide range of local causes. On this occasion, Past President Jon Symons had the pleasure of handing over money to pay for one Penzance child, living in difficult circumstances, to enjoy a week at a holiday retreat near Plymouth organised by CHICKS.

The Rotary Ramble - Its Your Sponsored Walk and its for Your Charity

For ten years, the Rotary Ramble on the last Sunday every September enabled local people of all ages to raise funds for their own chosen club or charity! Walkers retained 75% of the sponsorship money that they raised and donated it to the community group or charity of their chouce. The remaining 25% was collected in by Rotary who donated it to different charities selected each year. Between 2008 and 2017, the Rotary Ramble raised in excess of £75,000 for good causes.

Wishing Well

Proceeds from the Rotary Club's Wishing Well at Lands End are collected regularly from the bottom of the Wishing Well and distributed to causes supported by Rotary including Local Charities.

To everyone who has contributed. Thank You, indeed Well done!
