At the Rotary club of Wokingham, we believe that children, teenagers and young adults have a lot of talents, sometimes ignored, sometimes hidden or left unused because of a lack of opportunities to present them. We also believe in nurturing these talents, by giving a chance to these young people to practice their skills, and learn how to better use them.
Rotary International For Great Britain and Ireland (Rotary GB&I) organise each year multiple competitions aimed at promoting skills in artistic, culinary or oral and written communication.
Divided by age groups, the Young Photographer, Young Musician, Young Chef, Youth speaks, Young Writer competitions invites young people to take part in free multiple-stage tournaments, held at local, regional and national level.
Our member are very keen to work with schools, youth clubs in promoting and running these competitions and support the young people. Individual young persons are also welcome to apply for most of these competitions.
Each year, we support an event where children from many schools located in the Wokingham area gathers in the Hexagon, in Reading, and perform in front of enthusiastic audiences. This gives children an experience that they will remember for a long time...
Young adults wanting to improve their leadership skills may apply to get a place in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.
The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is one of the most successful Rotary programmes run by Rotary clubs around the world. The enjoyable and intensive training programme is for small groups of young people in specified age categories, covering the spectrum from 18 years to 25 years. RYLAs in different areas have different age categories which reflects the course content.
RYLA offers the leaders of the future a chance to get a head start at an early age. Motivated young people attend a one week camp, organised by local Rotary clubs. A RYLA programme gives young people and young adults the chance to apply their leadership and communication skills, share leadership ideas and experiences in a safe, enjoyable but challenging environment intended to take them out of their comfort zone and improve their leadership potential.
Are you interested in applying to one of the young people competition?
