Foundation - what we do

Foundation Committee

Foundation has three major functions. It raises money, it enables educational programmes and it gives support to other committees.

For some years the eradication of Polio has been a major objective of the Rotary movement. .Worldwide we met the challenge set by the Gates Foundation which had promised to give $350 million to the Rotary movement if we raised $200 million .In fact that goal was reached so efficiently that an additional gift of $50 million was made by the Foundation in recognition of this achievement. . Polio is still endemic in only three countries .Our Club is proud to have supported this work not only in raising money but also visiting India to take part in immunisation.

For a number of years our Club has been involved in hosting and assisting Peace Fellows at Bradford University.. The Rotary movement invests a large amount of money in supporting suitable candidates for a Masters degree in Peace studies. We regard this investment as money well spent as we are helping them to pursue careers at the highest level . We are delighted that our members are hosting two Peace fellows out of the nine that are sponsored at Bradford this year.

Foundation has a major part to play in the life of the Club in supporting other Committees . Taking into account our accumulated experience and training we have a particular expertise in increasing the value of any funds they can raise by obtaining access to grants for particular projects.
