Our Activities

A brief description of Club Activities and Projects

We meet together each Wednesday lunchtime at the Consort Hotel from around 12.15 pm when we gather for a quick chat and a drink. We sit down at 12.30 for a meeting lasting around 40 minutes. This may be a business meeting when members are updated on and discuss activities, or for a speaker chosen by one of the members. The meeting is followed by a two course lunch when members enjoy fellowship finishing by 2 pm. Sometimes the whole time is devoted to discussion or Rotary business accompanied by a buffet lunch.

The activities of the Club, apart from weekly meetings and social events, are largely run by three Project Committees:

  • Community and Vocational Projects
  • Youth Projects
  • International and Foundation Projects

Within these committees are various Action Groups which between them involve most of the membership. These groups can be for the major club fundraising projects such as the Christmas Collection or other Project Groups which have been selected for the Rotary year. Recently the trend has been towards supporting larger projects organised jointly with other local clubs such as Music in the Gardens. However the aim is to select a variety of projects under the Avenues of Service: Community, Vocational, Youth Projects and International & Foundation.

The Committees are also instrumental in the development of new projects, particularly those of the "hands on" variety such as maintaining the gardens at Rotherham Hospice, and the REPoD project (see separate panel).

In addition to our charitable projects, the Club has an active Social Programme. Some events may have an element of fundraising, and they range from very informal barbeques or bowling nights to the more formal President's Dinner or Charter Night. Whatever we do, we try to have fun!
