Sports
We participate in several sports.
Golf
Our main event is our AmAm competition held at the end of June at Stranraer Golf Club. This event which raises over £4,000 annually has now raised over £50,000 for charity.
We also enter 2 teams in our Rotary District competition. This involves matches on a knock out basis aganst other Rotary Clubs from the west of Scotland.
Matches are also arranged from time to time with neighbouring Clubs and we have also hosted a group of Canadian Rotarian golfers.
We also compete in the annual 'Wylkadin Quaich', hosted at Gleneagles each year. The event comprises a four person team from Rotary Clubs across Scotland playing individual Stableford format with the highest combined aggregate team score taking the trophy.
Curling
Many of our members are keen curlers. We have also introduced our Rotary friends from Larne to this sport as well as hosting a group of Canadian Rotarian curlers.
SEVERAL OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE PARTICIPATED IN GOLF AND CURLING TRIPS TO CANADA. SIMILARLY WE HAVE ALSO ACTED AS HOSTS FOR ROTARIANS FROM CANADA.
Bowls
We have an annual evening match involving our local 41 Club and followed by a meal. We also hold an Annual New Tattie Night in the early summer which comprises a game of bowls before retirin to the home of a member for refreshments and a meal. For many of us this is a highlight of the year!
