Membership Development & Retention

Membership Development

It has been good to see and hear Rotary and its efforts over two and a half decades to eradicate polio worldwide being talked about widely on BBC News, BBC Breakfast, Radio 1 and 2, Radio 4's Today Programme, the BBC website and even the World Service.

Let's use this as an opportunity to tell the story locally - to speak to potential Rotarians... TO ASK PEOPLE TO JOIN.

Media coverage like this can make people aware of Rotary, helping them to understand something about what Rotarians do - but only Rotarians can ask people to visit their clubs and, ultimately, to join our organisation.

If you need help or advice, please contact a member of the committee.

Extension (New Clubs Formation) - pleanty of good news on the February update page.

Marketing, PR & Communications

BBC coverage of End Polio Now

If you haven't done so already, you can catch up on the website on the excellent coverage on BBC radio and television this week of Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio. Our thanks go particularly to BBC Health Correspondent Fergus Walsh and to Rotary GB&I PRO Rebecca Warner, who worked for over a year to make Fergus's trip to the NID in India and the subsequent reports possible.

MPRC Awards 2012

The closing date for entries for this year's MPRC Awards is February 29th. There are 5 categories this year: PR Trophy, District Magazine Trophy, Club Bulletin Trophy, and (new this year) District Online Presence and Club Online Presence. Click through to the committee pages for details and an entry form.

Rotary GB&I Young Citizen Awards 2012

The same deadline of February 29th also applies to entries for the Rotary GB&I Young Citizen Awards which are held in association with the BBC News Channel. You can find more information on these prestigious awards and an entry form in the New Generations area.

RI PR Grants

One more deadline that is approaching fast is the one for RI PR Grants, for which districts can apply. The application deadline has been changed to 4th March 2012. Notification will be by 1st July 2012. This will enable districts to begin their projects at the beginning of the Rotary year.

Conference Committee

Although a number of the events and functions are now fully booked, Rotarians may still register for the 2012 Rotary GB&I Conference in Bournemouth, 13th to 15th April 2012.

There are a host of high quality, inspiring speakers, including Sir Terry Wogan, Loyd Grossman, Linda Nolan and Richard Digance, so please make sure you register soon and don't miss out on what promises to be a fabulous conference in one of Rotary's favourite venues.

Rotary Spring Clean Message from Rotary GB&I President Ray Burman: "Rotary is the Big Society in action. On Monday 12th March Rotarians throughout Rotary GB&I will be working alongside their communities to clean up their neighbourhoods - The Rotary Spring Clean.

"Clubs are coming together, working with partners to clean up their villages and towns. Just one example of many hundreds of Rotarians giving service to their community- the Burton-upon-Trent Rotary Club and the Bretby Rotary Club will be working together alongside young people from the Burton Venture Trust to clean up their local area.

"Wherever you are in Rotary GB&I, on Monday 12th March why not join with Victoria and me and take part in the Rotary Spring Clean. And don't forget to let us know what you are doing by posting your reports and photos on the Facebook page or email Bob Parfitt. "

By now your District Chairs and District Environment Officers will have received the virtual Rotary Spring Clean Toolbox and will have distributed this to your club. Details can be found here.

Look at what clubs are doing here. Remember... Rotary Spring Clean is limited only by your imagination.
