Macdonald-Smith Training Fund at Harbour Challenge

Started with funds raised in memory of Peter Macdonald-Smith, this will enable the Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education Centre in Hamworthy, Poole, to train their young leaders in various sailing, canoeing and other outdoor activities.

The Rotary Club of Poole is pleased to announce the creation of the Macdonald-Smith Training Fund at Harbour Challenge. Started with funds raised in memory of long serving Poole Rotarian and local businessman Peter Macdonald-Smith, who died in 2011, it will enable the Harbour Challenge Outdoor Education Centre based at St. Gabriel's, Turlin Moor, Hamworthy, Poole to train their young leaders in the various sailing, canoeing and other outdoor activities offered by the Centre.

This is an ideal memorial for Peter Macdonald-Smith, who was a lifelong sailor based in Poole Harbour. He was twice President of the Rotary Club of Poole, and as the owner of the family business of J.R.Smith & Sons, Steel Stockholders, in Hamworthy, he had strong links with the area in which Harbour Challenge is particularly active.

Chris Hurlock, the Harbour Challenge Principal, said that it had long been an ambition of the Centre to have a dedicated training fund to enable permanent members to continue to gain the Certificates of Competence to become instructors.
